It was LLI Design who stepped in to take up the challenge of completely transforming this four-story townhouse into a cheerful and stylish modern hub that complemented the urbane lifestyle of its hip young denizens. And the result is truly spellbinding!
Leaving the street façade unaltered the new addition is spread across two different levels and houses the kitchen dining room and home office among other spaces. But it is the use of large walk-on skylights that draws your attention instantly as the top level skylight also serves as a beautiful private terrace.
A ground floor flat spread across different levels the lovely home is blessed with a small private garden and courtyard which extend the living space outdoors. Built in the 1910s the old dark and congested interior of the flat has been completely transformed by doing away with the unwanted internal partitions and giving the townhouse a fresh modern facelift.
The architects solved part of this conundrum by creating an that brought a cooling effect to the interior even as a giant curtain was used to block off additional sunlight on really hot days.
There is no lack of color inside this living space with the corner areas being utilized as quiet and comfy reading / conversation zones. Draped in simple neutral hues and warm wooden tones the kitchen and dining space exude a more transitional style with beautiful pendant lighting and skylights illuminating this space evenly.
On the lower level of the house one finds the living area along with the kitchen dining space and a Zen-style nook next to the staircase that also holds an indoor tree. Additional bedrooms and storage spaces make up the rear part of the ground floor with the first floor holding the master bedroom and study.
Not too far away from the famous the townhouse seems to embrace the charm and essence of life in New York City even while bringing together vintage and modern design elements in a fluid fashion. Original millwork along with a custom living room cabinet adds sculptural style and textural beauty to an interior that is draped in neutral hues.
